Zebra Crossings

Zebra Crossings are a type of pedestrian crossings and are a common sight on UK roads.

Approaching Zebra Crossings

It’s important to see zebra crossings at the earliest opportunity to assess if anybody is waiting to cross. Look out for the orange flashing ‘ball’ shaped lights that flank the crossing.

On the approach, scan up and down the crossing constantly for any approaching pedestrians or cyclists. Look into your rear view mirror to establish if any vehicles are behind you.

If anybody is on the crossing or  you MUST stop before the stop line and wait for them to cross. Failure to do so can see you breaking the law.

If somebody is waiting to cross then you SHOULD stop and let them cross. While not doing so is not illegal, failure to do so on your driving test will result in a fail.
