Traffic Lights

Traffic lights are signalling devices located at junctions, roundabouts and pedestrian crossings.

Traffic Light Sequence
-
The green light indicates traffic can proceed in the direction indicated.
-
The orange light indicates that you should prepare to stop before the line if safe to do so. If you are too close to stop safely, you may proceed.
-
A red and orange light illuminated together means that the lights are about to change to green and the driver can prepare to go. You should not proceed until the green light is lit. This can be replaced by a flashing orange light at a Pelican Crossing. If this is the case, you may proceed through the crossing whilst the light is flashing so long as there are no pedestrians are on the crossing.
-
Red light means stop behind the line. Driving through a red light is illegal.

Arrows and Traffic Lights
Sometimes a green light may be replaced with a green arrow. If the arrow is lit it means you can proceed in the direction of the arrow only. It also means that the other lights at the junction are red and you have priority over cars in other directions.
